Meet our Inaugural Headmaster: Brian Sargent

Brian Sargent

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Sargent as our inaugural headmaster for the upcoming 2026–27 school year.

Brian brings more than 30 years of experience in secondary education, with extensive teaching experience across mathematics and science disciplines, including physics and astronomy.

A practicing Roman Catholic, he brings a deep commitment to faith-based learning, Catholic classical education, and the formation of the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. His appointment followed a deliberate and prayerful discernment process.

As headmaster, Brian will lead the academy in academic excellence and faithful Christian values, partnering with families, parish and diocesan leadership, faculty, and the board to build a community grounded in truth, beauty, and goodness.

About Brian Sargent

Brian holds advanced degrees in education and leadership, including master’s degrees in educational administration and educational technology, along with a graduate certificate in applied mathematics education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and holds a teaching certificate in science education.

For the past 25 years, Brian has taught mathematics, physics, physical science, and astronomy at Palisade High School in Palisade, Colorado. His background also includes teaching advanced mathematics and AP-level science courses at St. Thomas More High School in Rapid City, South Dakota, and mathematics instruction in a correctional education setting at the Custer Youth Correctional Facility. He has taught across all levels of math and science and served as an adjunct instructor for concurrent enrollment college algebra through Colorado Mesa University.

Beyond the classroom, Brian is involved in parish life as a Eucharistic minister and OCIA sponsor, reflecting his dedication to Catholic discipleship and service. He and his wife, Kathy, have been blessed with 32 years of marriage and are the proud parents of Zach, Ben, and Abby, as well as a new daughter-in-law, Sophia. He enjoys spending time with his family, being outdoors, and jogging with his four-legged companion, Achilles.

“It is an honor to serve the families of Chesterton Academy of St. Carlo Acutis,” Brian said. “I look forward to building strong relationships with parents, faculty, and students in a joyful, Christ-centered community. I am excited to partner with families and support their students as they continue their Catholic education through their high school years.”

Announcements about Brian’s appointment will be shared at local parishes over the next two weekends (Feb. 14 & 15 and 21 & 22). He will be available after Mass to meet families. Please stop by and introduce yourself.
